Indiana addresses Tyler v. Hennepin County

In Indiana, we have had little to zero change in light of Tyler v Hennepin Co. However, after recently reviewing the proposals for Indiana's Legislative Interim Study Committees for 2024. These committees have great influence in directing which topics/proposals are drafted into proposed Bills for the upcoming (2025) Legislative Session. Of note, on http://www.IGA.IN.GOV under Legislative Council Resolution from May 14, 2023, page 8, under topic (8) State & Local Tax Review Task Force (vii) Indiana is looking at "eliminating tax on homestead properties" which would be a very healthy % of properties in this state. The outgoing Lieutenant Governor ran for Governor in the recent Primary on the promise of eliminating property taxes. She lost the election, but the topic does have some momentum to at least study it. Eliminating property taxes has been proposed before in Indiana, but the resolution on where to get the money that property taxes produce was debated between sales tax, income tax, and/or other taxes. It is a pipe dream for some Indiana legislators for now, but we dont think it is impossible either. This is why we are watching national trends that could eventually blow our way in Indiana.
