Delaware County sees sales tax revenue decline
Delaware County has seen a decrease in sales tax revenue this year compared to last year at this time, Colchester Town Supervisor and county Budget Director Art Merrill announced during the county’s Finance Committee meeting Wednesday, May 8.
“You can see things are not going in the right direction right now, but we’ll see what happens as the season goes on,” Merrill said.
According to a spreadsheet provided by Merrill, the county has had a 5.2% reduction of sales tax revenue, or $480,454, compared to the first four months of last year. So far this year, the county has received $8,674,700.48. Throughout all of last year, the county received $31,470,991.01, which was a .45% increase over 2022. The county had an 8.3% increase in 2022 over 2021.
Merrill said once the books are finalized for 2023, he will create a graph to show how the sales tax receipts have fluctuated over the past five years.
