Amsterdam hires law firm to handle foreclosure proceedings


Amsterdam has hired a law firm to handle foreclosure proceedings against tax-delinquent properties, with those actions expected to soon be initiated.

A contract has been authorized with Phillips Lytle LLP to prosecute in rem foreclosures for past due property taxes from 2017 through 2021. The firm will charge the city $225 per parcel plus any filing or mailing expenses.

Officials said the law firm specializes in tax foreclosures and will be able to bring proceedings more rapidly than city staff could while juggling their other duties.
